I am a musician, teacher and writer, and live in London with my family.
You will find me playing the piano or gossiping with my friends (obviously essential research for my writing).
My books reflect my love of music and a tendency not to take life too seriously.
I have written two novels in the ‘Sing with the Choir’ series and they are both available from Amazon for kindle or in paperback. They can be read as part of a series or as standalone titles.
The first novel, “Make a Joyful Noise” is the sparkling tale of a choir preparing for a very special Christmas performance of “Belshazzar’s Feast”. We meet a host of characters who are mercilessly sent up by the author: Lucy the staggeringly trusting young music teacher, Tristan the lecherous and vain anti-hero, Miss Greymitt the ageing and slightly confused choir pianist, Claire the shameless and scheming temptress, and singers with nothing but resonance between their ears. Just as all does not run smoothly for King Belshazzar and the inhabitants of Babylon in Walton’s music, so the characters in the novel suffer from hopeless yearnings, romantic misunderstandings and the unfortunate consequences of their own misguided actions. All is sharply and wittily observed in a delightful mix of romance, music and humour.”
My second, “The Funny Business of Life”, is a not-entirely-serious murder mystery. The opening scene is set in 2014, eleven years after the end of ‘Make a Joyful Noise’. The heroine Miriam has a secret, a secret she cannot bring herself to share, a secret that leads to a brutal stabbing on Bonfire Night at St Cecilia’s School.
We travel back in time to investigate the mystery, meeting many colourful personalities along the way, including the bumbling Director of Music Lancelot Prokofiev, the predatory french teacher Celeste Dubonnet, Brunhilda the chocolate-loving music secretary, Dorian the sixth former who can understand complicated mathematics but forgets the day of the week and the egotistical conductor, Tristan Proudfoot.
I have also published collections of short stories and a cosy crime novella (or cozy crime if you live on the other side of the pond). All these are available as ebooks on Amazon.
